Estimate labor time and cost

Build the full estimate

ZIP code selects a broad U.S. regional planning rate. Replace it with the contractor's actual rate when available.

3.5–5 hoursExample for 10 standard outlet replacements at the U.S. average rate.
Estimated customer labor: $420–$600. Materials and permits are not included.

How the electrical labor estimate works

The calculator adds job setup time to an estimated time for each outlet, switch, fixture, fan, detector, breaker, or troubleshooting item. It then adjusts the result for job conditions. The low and high time estimates are multiplied by the editable customer labor rate and any fixed labor charge.

Example: replacing 10 outlets

For 10 accessible outlet replacements, the calculator starts with setup time plus time for each device, then displays a range instead of one exact promise. Finished walls, occupied rooms, damaged wiring, failed boxes, testing, labeling, furniture, or other conditions can extend the work.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to replace an electrical outlet?

A straightforward replacement may take roughly 20 to 30 minutes per device after setup. Access, testing, repairs, occupied spaces, and unexpected conditions can increase the time.

How does the calculator estimate electrical labor cost?

It combines setup time, estimated time per item, quantity, a job-condition adjustment, and an editable regional planning rate. Materials, permits, and other charges are separate.

Can I change the suggested hourly rate?

Yes. The regional rate is only a starting point. Replace it with the actual customer rate appropriate for the contractor, market, overhead, and job.
