Electrical job costing formula
WireWise separates job cost from customer price. Material cost is the quantity of each item multiplied by its unit cost. Internal labor cost is electrician hours multiplied by the electrician cost rate, plus helper hours multiplied by the helper cost rate. Other internal costs can include equipment rental, parking, disposal, delivery, or project-specific expenses.
The customer price uses marked-up materials, customer labor rates, permit or fixed charges, and applicable material tax. Estimated gross profit is the customer price before tax minus the estimated job cost. Gross margin is estimated gross profit divided by revenue before tax.

Job cost versus hourly rate
An hourly billing rate is not the same as the electrician's hourly cost. Internal cost should reflect wages plus the employment burden and other costs you assign to labor. The customer rate must also help cover business overhead and profit. WireWise stores both values so the job snapshot does not confuse revenue with cost.
Example job-cost review
Assume a small service job uses $400 of material, eight electrician hours, and two helper hours. Add the actual internal cost of those hours and any parking or permit expense. Then apply the material markup and customer labor rates. The calculator displays customer price, estimated cost, gross profit, and gross margin. If the margin is weaker than expected, review the material quantities, labor time, and unassigned costs before changing the selling price.
Use margin as a warning light
One target margin does not fit every contractor or job. Service calls, competitive bids, equipment-heavy work, change orders, and risky projects can require different pricing. Margin is most useful as a consistent warning light: if a job looks unusual, inspect the assumptions rather than trusting the final number automatically.
